“They were strange times. Very few rational people and some eccentric politicians believed that war could be postponed indefinitely. The shelters in the parks and the anti-asphyxiation masks were not just for show. And yet, everyone, even the most tormented refugees, played the optimists.”
A description of life in pre-war Paris from Eric Ambler’s Autobiography.
Reading our title, many readers may wonder what connection exists between what is happening now in Gaza or the West Bank and the events unfolding—or about to unfold—in Ukraine, Azerbaijan, or Taiwan, let alone the future of BRICS or the possibility of a nuclear war in Europe. At first glance, these events seem largely disconnected.
Andreas Papandreou, the late Prime Minister of Greece and an excellent analyst of global affairs, used to say, “We start from the general to arrive at the specific”. In this article, we will attempt to show—to the extent possible—that all these phenomena, and more, are interconnected manifestations of a fundamental, entirely logical and expected phenomenon: the effort by the ruling classes of global Capitalism and the collective West, the Empire of Financial Capital and American Arms, led by Israel, various Zionist lobbies, and the United States, to preserve their hegemonic position on the planet. We will also attempt to demonstrate that what will happen now, in August, in Palestine, could have decisive consequences for the entire world.
Because, unfortunately, it is very likely that Mr. Netanyahu will exploit, as he has done before, the summer lull to escalate his genocidal practices in Gaza , where the food rations per capita are already estimated to be smaller than those given to prisoners in Dachau, Auschwitz, and Buchenwald. (The next 40 days are also, in a way, a “waiting and see” period in East-West relations because of Trumps “warnings” to Russia).
If one does not analyze the social forces behind various political leaders and international political forces, but instead focuses solely on individual statements by figures like Netanyahu or Trump, then not only will he fail to analyze correctly and predict events. He will also run the risk to fall victim to dangerous delusions and deception campaigns. This happened, for example, with the Soviet leadership in 1939–41, nearly leading to the USSR’s defeat, and again in the 1980s, ultimately resulting in the USSR’s dissolution. We imagine, of course, that today, both the Russian and Chinese leadership, with the vast historical experience they posess, are far wiser than in the past.
Israel’s Global Role
A friend I was debating with recently spent two hours trying to convince me of the Israeli leadership’s friendly disposition toward Moscow and Beijing. He was particularly impressed by the fact that Israel sells China various defense products whose export the U.S. prohibits. We discussed many things—from Saakashvili’s attack (two of whose ministers held Israeli citizenship) on Russian forces in South Ossetia, to Israel’s arming of the Azov Battalion and the Israeli role in the liquidation of Nagorno-Karabakh, an operation in which Israel aligned with NATO-member Turkey’s plan to open a corridor toward the Caspian and Central Asia.
But what ultimately convinced him that I was probably right was the following argument:
For two years, we have witnessed Israel carrying out a massive ethnic cleansing operation, escalating into genocide, in full view of humanity—not only without being hindered but actively supported with weapons, money, and political-diplomatic backing by the “collective West.”
No other major power—not even the U.S., Russia, or China—could do this without facing severe political consequences.
Conversely of course, a power that acts so brazenly in such a direction is betting deeply on transforming the entire world in a neo-fascist, totalitarian direction.
Israel’s ability to do such a “public”, live transmitted can only be explained by its unwavering support from the true center of global power which is the international Financial Capital. The fact it can act like that regardless of the public opinion demonstrates also the tremendous advances of totalitarianism in our so-called democracies.
In the Middle East, Israel uses the methods of the Order of Assassins to eliminate its enemies’ leadership. In the West, the Zionist and NATO-aligned lobbies have achieved the same result not through assassinations but by using all sorts of entryism methods and by buying off and blackmailing the vast majority of political, media, and intellectual figures, while exostracizing all critical figures. Thus, when societies seek change, they find themselves “decapitated”—bereft of ideas, leaders, parties, or media to represent them.
Such is Israel’s control over western elites that Kamala Harris lost the election because she refused to distance herself even minimally from it, thus alienating a critical mass of Democratic voters in decisive states. As for Trump, it took less than four months for him to prove, by attacking Iran, that he is not much more than Netanyahu’s puppet—the horse the Emperor enthroned Incitatus – Wikipedia.
In Europe, the same pattern holds. Shortly after Israel and the U.S. launched an unprovoked attack on Iran, the supposed leaders of Britain, France, and Germany threatened Tehran—the victim—with sanctions.
It may sound exaggerated, but find me even one minor event that contradicts the image that the vast majority of the Western political class, as employees of Financial Capital, becxome also employees of Netanyahu.
In light of the above, one understands that Israel is merely the visible tip of an “iceberg”—an invisible but immensely powerful Empire of Finance at the center of global power. Only this could permit its actions.
But it is precisely this center—the Empire of global Money—that cannot tolerate the rise of competing centers with significant power and relative independence, such as Russia, China, Iran, and other Global South forces. It cannot abide even the slightest European independence, let alone any remaining democratic or social rights for the working classes in the West itself.
This is the center now promoting, thanks to new technologies, a new totalitarianism that will make past totalitarianisms seem like alchemy compared to modern chemistry. And it is this center that, despite tactical differences, is experimenting with or planning military violence against all its rivals, Palestinians, Iranians, Lebanese, Russians or Chinese.
We considered this introduction necessary to better develop, in a subsequent article, our views on the situation in Palestine and its potential global consequences.
