President of Hospital Workers Union injured during ‘tension’ with riot police

June 30, 2020

The times of showing gratitude to essential and front line workers fighting the pandemic are over. The President of the Hospital Workers Union (POEDIN) was injured by the “clapping” hands of the Greek riot police.

POEDIN President Michalis Giannakos was injured in the head on Tuesday morning, when tension broke out between unionists and police outside the Finance Ministry in the center of Athens.

It looks as if Giannakos stumbled and fell during the incidents with police.

He was immediately offered first aid by his hospital workers colleagues.

The unionists held a work stoppage and marched to the ministries of Labor and Finances demanding same social security scheme for all workers at the country’s public hospitals and accession to the “heavy and unhealthy professions.”
