Russia Vows Retaliation After Alleged Ukrainian Drone Attack on Putin’s State Residence
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated on Monday (December 29) that Ukraine allegedly attempted a drone attack on President Vladimir Putin’s residence in the Novgorod region. According to Lavrov, 91 long-range UAVs were launched by Kyiv, all of which were destroyed by Russian air defenses, with no casualties or damage reported.
Lavrov called the attack “state terrorism” and said targets for retaliatory strikes had already been determined. He also noted that the attack occurred during intensive negotiations between Russia and the U.S. on resolving the Ukrainian conflict, and while Russia will not withdraw from negotiations, its negotiating position will be reviewed.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy denied the accusations, calling them false and claiming that Moscow may be preparing to strike government buildings in Kyiv. It remains unclear whether President Putin was present at the residence during the alleged attack.
