Um Apelo Urgente à Opinião Pública Mundial: Parem a guerra antes que seja tarde demais!

A guerra na Ucrânia prossegue, sem interrupções há já quatro meses, causando um elevado número de vítimas e vasta destruição de bens do povo da Ucrânia além de enormes danos à economia global. A vida de milhões de pessoas em todo o mundo está sendo afetada devido ao aumento dos preços e à crise energética e, acima de tudo, à elevação constante das tensões globais que empurram a humanidade para a beira de uma guerra nuclear.

A intervenção militar russa na Ucrânia foi uma resposta evidente às medidas tomadas pelo regime de Kiev e pelas milícias armadas de extrema-direita contra os russos, a população russófona e outros cidadãos da Ucrânia, assim como à não implementação dos acordos de Minsk e à contínua e agressiva expansão da OTAN na direção dos territórios da antiga União Soviética. 

Mas, mesmo se rejeitarmos completamente os argumentos russos e se aceitarmos plenamente a interpretação dos EUA e da OTAN sobre a crise ucraniana, a resposta ocidental à intervenção russa, armando maciçamente a Ucrânia e impondo sanções sem precedentes contra a Rússia, é totalmente desproporcionada. Esta política não ajuda os ucranianos e comporta um risco muito elevado de catástrofe a nível global no terreno nuclear, ecológico e socioeconômico. 

O prolongamento do conflito ucraniano está aumentando o risco de uma guerra mundial nuclear por acidente, por erro de cálculo ou por provocação e a subsequente aniquilação da humanidade. 

É claramente impossível enfrentar os desafios candentes do nosso tempo, tais como as mudanças climáticas, a fome e outras ameaças à sobrevivência da humanidade numa atmosfera de hostilidade internacional. Todos os ganhos alcançados desde o fim da Segunda Guerra Mundial parecem estar hoje em jogo e a cooperação entre nações e povos atingiu neste momento um alarmante nível mínimo. A continuação deste conflito aproxima-nos do ponto de colapso da civilização humana, como adverte o recente relatório da ONU (GAR2022: Global Assessment Report on Disaster Risk Reduction). 

As sanções e contra-sanções já provocaram efeitos sociais e econômicos devastadores para a maioria dos países do mundo. E a esta altura ficou claro que todas essas medidas não podem ajudar a Ucrânia a ganhar uma guerra impossível de ganhar desde o seu início. Mas elas estão contribuindo para a matança e migração da juventude ucraniana e para a destruição do país. 

É por isso que consideramos da maior urgência apelar a um cessar-fogo imediato e ao início de negociações acompanhados do levantamento das sanções e do fim do envio de armamento para a Ucrânia. 

Apelamos à opinião pública mundial, a todos os movimentos sociais, intelectuais, sindicatos, comunidades religiosas e governos, para que atuem com firmeza nesta direção e coordenem os seus esforços. 

Não há tarefa mais importante para a humanidade neste momento do que deter a possibilidade de uma guerra mundial aberta e o consequente colapso da Civilização!
