“Not only do I agree with the return of the Parthenon Sculptures but you will also have our support,” Chinese President Xi Jingping said during an one-hour visit to the Acropolis Museum on Tuesday morning.

Accompanied by the Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos, the Chinese President was toured through the Museum of which he was reportedly very impressed.

Xi expressed his support for the steadfast Greek demand saying also that “we too have our own of Chinese culture outside the country and are trying to return home.”

The statements were made in front of the sculpture of Caryatid following Pavlopoulos urge for Chinese support.

“The Sculptors’ place is here and not in the British Museum. They keep them illegal. We ask for your support,” Pavlopoulos told Xi Jingping.

The Greek President explained to his Chinese counterpart that some of the Parthenon Marbles he sees in the Acropolis Museum are replicas as the original ones are in the British Museum.
