Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has credited Israel’s military victories and U.S. President Donald Trump’s “massive diplomatic pressure” for bringing Hamas to agree to the latest ceasefire and hostage deal. In a televised address, Netanyahu rejected claims that the agreement could have been reached earlier, asserting that Hamas “only agreed when it felt the sword resting on its neck.” He emphasised that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) will remain deep inside Gaza, retaining control of key areas like Gaza City and the Philadelphi Corridor. Netanyahu vowed to continue efforts to return the remains of slain hostages for proper Jewish burials, calling it a “holy obligation.” Thanking Trump, Jared Kushner, Steve Witkoff, and Israeli negotiator Ron Dermer, Netanyahu hailed the plan as a major diplomatic breakthrough that isolated Hamas internationally. He declared that Israel’s actions over the past two years have delivered “massive victories that are changing the face of the Middle East,” while warning that the war is not yet over and challenges remain ahead.
