Iran’s chief negotiator says Americans voted ‘no to war’

Iran’s chief negotiator in talks with the US has said that Americans voted “NO TO WAR”, after President Donald Trump’s Republican Party suffered a stunning defeat in the midterm elections.

“We endorse this message,” parliament speaker Mohammed Bagher Ghalibaf wrote on X.

“If the US [government] betrays their public will to serve international paymasters and blackmailers, it will learn our NO comes with a Nightmare,” he warned.

Trump acknowledged on Tuesday that the poor results for Republican congressional candidates were partly due to the war and the related surge in petrol prices. But he insisted that he did not regret launching a joint attack with Israel on Iran in February.

Pro-Israel Lobby Defeated in Michigan as El-Sayed Wins Senate Primary

Michigan Democrats handed the pro- Israel lobby the costliest defeat in its history Tuesday, nominating Abdul El-Sayed for U.S. Senate over Michigan Representative Haley Stevens, a Democrat, by the slimmest of margins, after American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) and allied groups spent close to $30 million trying to stop him.

It was the largest sum AIPAC has ever committed to a single race. Counts that fold in other outside groups put the total spent on Stevens’ behalf far higher. Federal Election Commission records reviewed by Newsweek show more than $54 million from pro-Stevens committees. Fox 2 Detroit put the AIPAC-linked figure at more than $46 million. El-Sayed spent about $3.2 million from his own campaign account on advertising.

US midterm election: A massive repudiation of Trump and the Republicans

The 2026 midterm elections are an overwhelming repudiation of Donald Trump and the policies of his government by the American people. The Republican Party was swept out of power in the House of Representatives in a landslide and lost control of the Senate as well.

The Republicans lost Senate seats in North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas, Ohio, Kansas, Maine and Iowa as of this writing, while not capturing any seats previously held by Democrats. The incoming Senate could have a Democratic majority as high as 56-44, depending on the outcome of the races in Alaska and Mississippi.

The anti-Trump wave also brought down entrenched Republican governors like Greg Abbott in Texas and billionaire gubernatorial candidates Vivek Ramaswamy in Ohio and Rick Jackson in Georgia.

Sanders Calls for ‘Fundamental and Immediate Reform’ to Democratic Party If It Wins Elections

As a campaign season in which dozens of progressive candidates endorsed by US Sen. Bernie Sanders prevailed in primaries, the independent Vermont lawmaker urged his supporters across the country to “do all we can to bring out the vote to end Republican control of Congress,” while urging voters to look beyond the goal of reining in President Donald Trump.

“If the pundits are correct and Democrats are able to take back the House and even the Senate, the Democratic Party must undergo fundamental and immediate reform,” said Sanders in an email to supporters.

The senator’s closing message of the campaign season came as the latest poll from The New York Times/Siena found Democrats, including progressives whose views have been deemed “too extreme” by the Democratic establishment and Republicans, with strong leads in Michigan, Texas, Maine, Ohio, and Kansas.
