US will not sell F-35 fighter jets to Turkey after its Russian missile defense purchase – Trump

President Donald Trump has said Washington will not sell Turkey its next-generation F-35 jet fighter, after Turkey took delivery of the Russian-made S-400 air defense system. Turkey has been a partner in the F-35 program.
“The situation with Turkey is very complex and tough. We are in contact with Turkish officials,” Trump said. US officials had long threatened to exclude Turkey from the F-35 program, claiming that operating the jet alongside the S-400 would allow Moscow to learn its secrets.

Posted on While he probably doesn’t have a mechanism to get around it, President Trump lamented the ban on F-35 sales to Turkey on Tuesday, saying it isn’t fair to the US, and isn’t fair to Turkey.
Turkey was all set to buy F-35 warplanes, a pricey US-made plane the Trump Administration is eager to sell, but then announced they were buying Russian S-400 anti-aircraft systems instead of the US alternative. The US warned they couldn’t have the F-35 if they did that, but Turkey bought it anyhow.
