Western Missile Attack Failed to Terrorize Syrian Troops – Hezbollah Leader

15.04.2018

On April 14, over 100 missiles were fired at Syria as a response to alleged chemical weapons usage by Damascus, in US President Donald Trump’s attempt to reatliate against what he said was “barbarism and brutality”.

Lebanese movement Hezbollah’s leader Hassan Nasrallah stted that the US-led missile strikes on Syria failed to achieve its goal and namely “to terrorize Syrian troops, raise morale of insurgents or serve interests of Israel.”

He went on saying that the US military establishment kept its strikes limited since it was aware that wider aggression against Syria would provoke a response from Damascus and escalate tensions in the entire region.

Nasrallah also accused Gulf states of inciting the US military actions in Syria and funding the missile strike on the country.

After on Friday night, the US, France, and Britain launched strikes on a number of targets in Syria in response to an alleged chemical incident in the Damascus’ suburb of Douma, Hezbollah declared that the US will never succeed in the war that it has unleashed against Syria and ordinary people in the Middle East. The Shia militant movement also piled praise on Syria for repelling airstrikes earlier launched by the US, the UK and France against the Arab Republic.

In the wake of reports about an alleged gas attack in Syria’s Douma emerged in some local media, which cited sources among militants, the Western states rushed to accuse forces of Syrian President Bashar Assad of chemical weapons usage. The Syrian leadership denied any involvement in the attack, and invited the experts from the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) to investigate into the reports.

According to the Russian Defense Ministry, the three countries fired over 100 cruise and air-to-surface missiles, most of which were shot down by the Syrian air defense. Three people got injuries as a result of the strike, the Syrian General Staff reported.

Syrian President Bashar Assad slammed the attack, saying that after the strike, Damascus’ resolve to “fight and crush terrorism in every inch” would only increase.
