Opinion: Belarus should preserve sovereignty and independence

MINSK, 31 August (BelTA) – It is critically important to consolidate the society during the time of conflicts, as this is the only way to resist external threats. Belarus should preserve its sovereignty and independence, including in the financial and industrial sectors, political analyst Piotr Petrovsky told the Belarus 1 TV channel, BelTA informs.

Whenever there is a conflict in a country, everyone wants to take advantage of it. Let’s speak frankly. Poland and Lithuania, even if they have no territorial claims, they want resources, first of all, cheap labor. The decisions that Lithuania and Poland have taken in this regard are testimony to that. These countries have done everything to make it as easy as possible for our citizens to enter their territory,” Piotr Petrovsky said.

The political analyst went on saying: “We must understand that the Russian Federation is also a heterogeneous country. While the country’s political leadership has taken a rather constructive, friendly position, in contrast many oligarchic, financial and industrial groups want to use the difficulties facing Belarus in order to push for privatization, and in fact takeover of our flagship companies. Here we also need to keep our finger on the pulse. We need to cooperate with Russia as much as possible, but at the same time explain to their financial and industrial groups that we should not give in our sovereignty and independence, especially when it comes to the privatization of our property.
