Gaza’s dead pile up as cemeteries reach capacity and the Israeli military occupies the graveyards
Inside a Gaza cemetery, a worker issued a desperate plea for help, describing a situation of total collapse as burial grounds reached full capacity. “The bodies are all coming back, there is no place left in the cemeteries,” he said. The crisis has been further compounded by Israeli military raids on the cemeteries, making it perilous for families to bury their loved ones. “The Israelis are searching the cemeteries, what for? We don’t know,” he said, adding that anyone who enters risks returning as a corpse. Standing beside several bodies from one family, he explained that the death toll continues to rise while refrigeration units and grave plots are nearly exhausted. He called on the international community and religious leaders to intervene, warning that the inability to bury the dead is a crime against humanity.
