Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has confirmed that he will not support initiatives to finance Ukraine’s military spending at the upcoming EU summit. The politician informed the President of the European Council, Antonio Costa, about this, writes TASS.
“Under no pressure will I support any decision to support Ukraine’s military spending, in which Slovakia would have to participate,” he said.
In addition, Fico again criticized the idea of transferring Russian assets blocked in the European Union to Ukraine’s military needs. In turn, former Slovak Prime Minister Igor Matovic tried to disrupt Fico’s speech. With an anti-government slogan, he went to the speaker’s podium and provoked a scandal with the deputies.
On December 1, Robert Fico said that the transfer of frozen Russian assets to Ukraine would be an illegal confiscation and would entail serious retaliatory measures from Moscow.
Prior to that, Belgian Foreign Minister Maxime Prevost stated that the EU countries were unwilling to assume obligations and share the risks associated with using Russian assets to finance Ukraine.
