A presidential announcement on the Iran deal, via Twitter

Earlier today, President Donald Trump tweeted that he will be announcing his decision on whether to reimpose economic sanctions on Iran tomorrow, Tuesday, May 8, at 2 PM Eastern.

Despite evidence that Tehran is complying with the terms of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), it is widely expected that Trump will announce a re-imposition of sanctions, effectively ending US participation in the agreement.

The much-anticipated announcement comes just one week after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s presentation in which he claimed that Iran had cheated on the deal and had continued clandestine operations to develop its own nuclear arsenal. Many political commentators at the time claimed that the presentation was aimed specifically at Trump. The US President has decried the Obama-era deal since taking office.
