Iran says it has submitted a formal proposal to end the US–Israeli war, stressing diplomacy while warning of readiness for war if talks fail.

Iran has submitted an official proposal aimed at bringing a permanent end to the US-Israeli-imposed war, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs,  Kazem Gharib Abadi, announced on Saturday.

Gharib Abadi said the proposal was delivered to Pakistan, which is acting as a mediator in the process.

During a briefing in Tehran for resident foreign ambassadors on the contents of the initiative, the deputy FM stated that “the ball is now in the American court” regarding the choice between pursuing diplomacy or continuing the war.

As part of an intensified diplomatic effort, Gharib Abadi also held a trilateral meeting with the ambassadors of China and Russia, followed by discussions with a number of other foreign envoys. He said Iran has always believed in diplomacy based on mutual interests to resolve outstanding issues and has “fully played its role” in that regard.

Lack of trust persists

However, he stressed that Tehran has consistently maintained its “pessimism and lack of trust” toward the United States and its sincerity in any proposed diplomatic process.

On the operational level, the Iranian official delivered a firm message, stating that the country is fully prepared to respond decisively to any aggression targeting Iran or its people.

He added that Iran remains ready for both scenarios, whether a political agreement is reached or confrontation is imposed, placing responsibility on the US administration to determine the next course of action.

Araghchi pushes diplomacy during talks with EU, France

Earlier on May 1, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held talks with European officials, outlining Tehran’s latest initiatives aimed at ending the ongoing war and restoring regional stability.

According to a statement by Iran’s Foreign Ministry, Araghchi briefed EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas during a phone call on Iran’s positions and proposals to bring an end to the war imposed by the United States and the Israeli occupation. The discussions also addressed broader regional developments and ceasefire negotiations.

In a separate call, Araghchi held similar discussions with French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot, with both sides reviewing Tehran’s proposals and diplomatic efforts to halt the war.

The diplomatic outreach coincided with Tehran submitting an updated proposal to end the war through Pakistani mediation. Iran’s official news agency reported that a final draft of the negotiation framework was delivered to Islamabad, which has conveyed it to Washington.

The move follows an earlier Iranian proposal sent last week outlining Tehran’s conditions for ending the war, also transmitted via Pakistan.

In parallel, US media reports citing Pakistani officials indicated that Islamabad had delivered a revised Iranian response to recent US conditions. The officials expressed optimism that an agreement may now be closer following Tehran’s latest submission.
