Protestors in Greece have been seen sporting a “Glorify the resistance” banner, featuring Hamas, Hezbollah and Houthis members.

Tens of thousands of demonstrators gathered in cities across the country on Saturday, rallying against the ongoing US-Israeli military campaign targeting Iran.

The protests were coordinated by an alliance of left-wing political organisations, trade unions, student groups, migrant associations and humanitarian bodies.

The largest gathering came in Athens, where crowds assembled at the parliament before proceeding towards the American Embassy.

Protesters called for an immediate end to the conflict, urging Greece to stay out of the war and prioritise spending on health and education over defence.

One video circulating online shows one female activist, whose voice is projected through a megaphone, saying: “We are standing with Iran. We are standing with Palestine. We are standing with Lebanon. We are standing with Yemen.

“We are standing with all the axis of resistance against the Zionist entity and American imperialism, and we are saying one more time: the axis of resistance will be victorious.”

She later called on those around her to “stand with Iran”.

Hezbollah flags could also be seen at the march. Its military wing has been proscribed in the European Union, including Greece, since 2013.

In 2019, the UK proscribed the organisation as a whole.

Eirini Thanou, another demonstrator, said: “We are here to send a message against the war, against EU-level initiatives that aim to strengthen tools for war preparation. We do not want to be part of that war; we stand with people and peace.”
