A large anti-war protest took place in Athens on Friday evening, as trade unions and organisations affiliated with PAME marched towards the United States Embassy, calling for Greece’s non-involvement in military plans in the Middle East.
The Federation of Builders led the procession alongside organisers, while central banners displayed slogans including “Neither land nor water to the murderers of peoples” and “Close the bases of death”. Protesters called for an end to any facilitation provided to the United States, NATO and Israel.
Salaried technicians, metalworkers, student associations, the Federation of Greek Women (OGE), and conscripted young people joined the large demonstration, expressing opposition to military missions outside Greece’s borders.
Beyond the anti-war message, transport workers and employees in the food sector linked their participation to economic concerns. Through official statements, trade unions demanded collective labour agreements with wage increases, the restoration of the 13th and 14th salaries, and significant reductions in ticket prices.
The march concluded outside the US Embassy, where demonstrators criticised policies that, according to PAME, “spread destruction in the Middle East and poverty among the people.”
