Interview of Turkish political scientist and journalist Yunus Soner with Dimitris Konstantakopoulos for DefendDemocracy.Press and Militaire.gr
Trump and the United States are using the negotiations over Ukraine to achieve a series of international objectives, neutralizing allies of Russia (and China), such as the regime of Bashar al-Assad in Syria, Venezuela, perhaps tomorrow Cuba and Iran, and to advance their positions in the Caucasus, if not also in Central Asia, the distinguished Turkish analyst Yunus Soner estimates. He believes that, for various reasons, Ankara was “allowed” to appear with a relatively autonomous role on the international stage, in contrast to the pre-Erdoğan past; however, the West is already exerting pressure for its full alignment.
With Mr. Soner we also discuss the explosive situation surrounding Iran, relations between Ankara and Tel Aviv, the internal situation in Turkey and Syria, the Kurdish question, Cyprus, scenarios for changing the Turkish Constitution, and the succession of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
