Standing with Palestine

By Giorios Margaritis (*)

Greece, a non-permanent member of the Security Council, voted in favor of the US proposal for the implementation of the Trump Plan for Palestine. The plan stipulates:

  • The disarmament of Hamas and its removal from the political scene of Palestine.
    • First observation: Hamas enjoys, according to Western polls, the absolute confidence of Palestinians (80% in the West Bank, 60% in Gaza). In essence, it is clearly stated that the people of Palestine can only be governed by colonial-style administrators, commissioned by Israel and the imperialist powers.
  • The reform of the Palestinian Authority.
    • Second observation: So that it becomes a colonial-style administration, controlled by Israel and the imperialist powers.
  • The deployment of an International Stabilization Force in Gaza, which is mandated to use all means to impose the will of the imperialist powers (and Israel).
    • Third observation: Since Israel has rejected Turkey and other Muslim countries – and essentially dictates the composition of the military force – the deployment of American forces and subservient ones like them – such as the Greek military – is clearly discernible.
  • The administration of the Gaza area will be undertaken until December 31, 2027, by a Peace Committee headed by President Trump, with members to be determined by himself and Israel.
    • Fourth observation: Gaza will be officially transformed into an international protectorate where the US and Israel will have the first and last word.
  • The creation of a Palestinian State – a permanent demand of UN resolutions – is postponed indefinitely. For when, “the conditions may finally be conducive to a credible path towards Palestinian self-determination and statehood.”
    • Fifth observation: That is, this future will be certified by Israel. However, Israel immediately stated that “the establishment of a Palestinian State in any form, in any territory, is impossible.” In other words, the relevant UN decisions have simply been annulled.
  • The representative of Greece (Ms. Balta) expressed our country’s full support for the Security Council Resolution on Gaza.
    • Sixth observation:
    • Well, what a surprise!!!!!
  • She also seized the opportunity for some crude flattery of the American leadership: The permanent representative of Greece praised “the leading diplomatic initiative and the unwavering commitment of the United States to a peaceful solution,” adding that “History will record our collective decision today.”
    • Seventh observation:
    • …utterly self-evident…

In contrast, Hamas rejected the plan. In an announcement, it stressed, among other things:

“It entrusting duties and roles to an international force in the Gaza Strip, including disarming the resistance, strips it of its neutrality and turns it into a party to the conflict, which acts in favor of the occupation.”

To put it plainly: With its stance, Greece has just declared war on the people of Palestine. It positioned itself in favor of the occupation, the genocide, and the enslavement of the people of Palestine. In exchange for a few crumbs for construction companies from the haunted ruins of Gaza.

With Palestine, until Freedom.

Especially now that our country’s government is taking an active stance against the people of Palestine.
