Under the agreement, Israel will release 250 prisoners sentenced to life in prison and 1,700 prisoners detained from Gaza since October 7, 2023, in exchange for 20 Israeli prisoners.

Israel has agreed to add ten new names of Palestinian detainees serving life sentences as part of the prisoner exchange agreement with Hamas, Al-Jazeera Arabic reported on Friday.

Meanwhile, sources told the channel that Israel continues to refuse the release of Fatah leader Marwan Barghouti and some senior commanders of the Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas.

The report further cited Israeli Army Radio as having reported that 100 of the total of 250 Palestinian prisoners with long-term sentences will be allowed to leave for the occupied West Bank and five for Jerusalem.

Trump announced on Wednesday that Israel and Hamas agreed to the first phase of a 20-point plan he laid out on September 29 to bring a ceasefire to Gaza, release all Israeli captives being held there in exchange for around 2,000 Palestinian prisoners, and a gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces from the entire Gaza Strip.

Under the agreement, Israel will release 250 prisoners sentenced to life in prison and 1,700 prisoners arrested from Gaza since October 7, 2023, in exchange for 20 Israeli prisoners, according to the Anadolu news agency.

US Middle East Envoy Steve Witkoff announced on Friday that Israeli occupation forces had completed their Gaza withdrawal to the yellow line, as stipulated in the ceasefire agreement.

“CENTCOM has confirmed that the Israeli Defense Forces completed the first phase withdrawal to the yellow line at 12PM local time,” he stated on X. “The 72 hour period to release the hostages has begun.”

Staggering Death Toll

Gaza’s Ministry of Health announced on Friday that 17 Palestinians were killed and 71 injured due to the Israeli aggression on the enclave in the past 24 hours.

It said “a number of victims are still under the rubble and on the roads, as ambulance and civil defense crews are unable to reach them.”

The total death toll has risen to 67,211, with 169,961 injured since October 7, 2023.
