Ukrainian media on Zelensky’s visit to Athens
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky visited Athens on Sunday (16/11/2025), and in Kyiv the visit was followed with particular interest.

As Strana writes, Zelensky met with his Greek counterpart Konstantinos Tasoulas and Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

The Ukrainian outlet notes with surprise that the Greek police prohibited gatherings and demonstrations during Zelensky’s stay in Athens.

Zelensky stated that Ukraine and Greece signed an agreement for the transit of U.S. liquefied natural gas (LNG) through Greek terminals.
According to him, the first batches of natural gas will reach Ukraine in January.

“We have already prepared an agreement with Greece for natural gas for Ukraine.
We will allocate almost two billion euros for gas imports to compensate for the losses of Ukrainian production caused by the Russian attacks,” he said.

Greece is becoming a key transit point for the supply of American liquefied natural gas to Central and Eastern Europe,” the Greek prime minister said, according to Strana.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is expected to visit Athens on Sunday afternoon. He is due to meet with his Greek counterpart Konstantinos Tasoulas, as well as Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

For security reasons, neither the details of Zelenskyy’s programme nor the timing of his stay in the Greek capital have been made public.

What’s on the agenda?

According to analysts, Zelenskyy’s visit to Greece is largely linked to the energy sector. Ukrainian media, citing sources within the Ukrainian president’s office, have not ruled out the possibility of an agreement in this field.

In recent months, Athens has been pushing forward with its own energy planning — both with the inauguration of a gas compression station in Komotini and with efforts to accelerate the Greece–Cyprus link through the Great Sea Interconnector.

The Komotini compressor station is the first electrically driven facility of its kind in Greece, a technologically advanced, zero-emission project capable of receiving natural gas and hydrogen blends, marking a step towards a new era of clean fuels.
