Llamamiento urgente a la opinión pública mundial: ¡Detengan la guerra antes de que sea demasiado tarde!

La guerra en Ucrania continúa sin tregua desde hace cuatro meses, causando una enorme pérdida en vidas y en destrucción de infraestructura del pueblo ucraniano y un enorme daño a la economía mundial. La vida de millones de personas en todo el mundo está siendo afectada debido al aumento de los precios, a la crisis energética y al permanente incremento de la tensión a nivel internacional, que coloca a la humanidad al borde de una guerra nuclear.

La intervención militar rusa en Ucrania fue una respuesta evidente a las medidas adoptadas por el régimen de Kiev y las milicias armadas de extrema derecha contra los rusos, contra la población de lengua rusa y contra otros ciudadanos de Ucrania, así como al incumplimiento de los acuerdos de Minsk y a la continua y agresiva expansión de la OTAN en dirección a los territorios de la antigua URSS. 

Pero incluso si descartamos por completo los argumentos rusos y si aceptamos plenamente la interpretación de Estados Unidos y de la OTAN sobre la crisis ucraniana, la respuesta occidental a la intervención rusa, armando masivamente a Ucrania e imponiendo sanciones sin precedentes contra Rusia, es totalmente desproporcionada. Esta política, no solo no ayuda a los ucranianos sino que eleva el riesgo de catástrofes en el ámbito nuclear, ecológico y socioeconómico, a nivel mundial. 

La prolongación del conflicto ucraniano aumenta el riesgo de una guerra mundial nuclear por accidente, por error de cálculo o por provocación y la consiguiente aniquilación de la humanidad. 

Está claro que es imposible abordar los retos candentes de nuestro tiempo, como el cambio climático, el hambre y otras amenazas existenciales para la humanidad, en un ambiente de hostilidad internacional. Todos los logros alcanzados desde el final de la Segunda Guerra Mundial parecen estar hoy en juego y la cooperación entre las naciones y los pueblos ha disminuído a un nivel mínimo  alarmante. La continuación de este conflicto nos acerca al punto de colapso de la civilización humana, tal y como advierte el reciente informe de la ONU (GAR2022: Global Assessment Report on Disaster Risk Reduction). 

Las sanciones y contra-sanciones ya han tenido efectos sociales y económicos devastadores en la mayoría de los países del mundo. Y a esta altura está claro que todas esas medidas no pueden ayudar a Ucrania a ganar una guerra que desde el comienzo era imposible de ganar. Pero contribuyen a la muerte y a la emigración de la juventud ucraniana y a la destrucción del país. 

Por ello, consideramos de máxima urgencia hacer un llamamiento a un inmediato cese al fuego y al inicio de negociaciones, acompañados del levantamiento de las sanciones y del fin del suministro de armas para Ucrania. 

Exhortamos a la opinión pública mundial, a los movimientos sociales, a los intelectuales, a los sindicatos, a las comunidades religiosas y a los gobiernos para que actúen con firmeza en esta dirección y coordinen sus esfuerzos. 

¡No hay tarea más importante para la humanidad en este momento que detener el camino hacia una guerra mundial abierta que llevaría al colapso de la Civilización!
