International solidarity with Global Sumud Flotilla, intercepted by Israel

The flotilla of 45 boats was transporting humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.

Various organizations, trade unions, and governments are speaking out in favor of the safety of people on board the international flotilla Global Sumud, following the interception by Israel’s genocidal forces, in international waters of the eastern Mediterranean.

After boarding several of the 45 vessels transporting humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, President Gustavo Petro, from his social media account, warned about Global Sumud’s monitoring.

“Global and Latin American alert. Alert for the people of Colombia,” the president said when sharing a video of Luna, one of the Colombian members of the flotilla.

The Colombian Commission in the Global Movement to Palestine, remarked that Zionist ships intercepted the HIO ship in international waters of Palestine.

“There are Manuela and Luna, two Colombians who have gone to Gaza to put their bodies on the line in resistance to genocide. Let’s not stop talking about Palestine,” the entity stressed.

The Brazilian government also expressed its concern and condemned the attack on the flotilla, while holding Israel responsible for the safety of the people on the boat.


France also requested respect and guarantee the safety of the members of the Sumud Global Flotilla. Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot said that “we demand that the Israeli authorities guarantee the safety of the participants, ensure their right to consular protection and allow them to return.” In solidarity with the flotilla, the Italian General Confederation of Labour stressed that the attack on civilian boats carrying Italian citizens represents an extremely serious matter.

It is a blow to the constitutional order itself that prevents humanitarian action and solidarity with the Palestinian population, subjected by the Israeli government to a real operation of genocide.

Meanwhile, hundreds of students from Italian cities such as Padua or Romahan occupied several university faculties today to support the flotilla and demand an end to collaboration agreements between Italian and Israeli universities. “For Gaza, for Palestine, for the ‘Sumud’ Flotilla.

Let’s close the universities, the cities, the country. It is no longer the time to look the other way,” was the position of the student association of the University of Padua.

Likewise, the Articulation of Social and Popular Movements towards ALBA (ALBA Movements) denounced and held the State of Israel responsible for the safety of our comrades in the Flotilla, just 90 miles from Gaza.

The Flotilla detected more than 20 unidentified vessels on its radar, just 3 nautical miles ahead of them.
