Israel and the Lebanese Resistance – Hezbollah have reached an agreement on a ceasefire, set to go into effect at 4:00 pm local time on Friday, a senior US official confirmed to Reuters.

The official, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed that both sides have formally consented to halt hostilities following intense diplomatic negotiations.

Hezbollah and Israel have agreed to a ceasefire,” the official stated, adding that the deal was brokered jointly by US and Qatari mediators, with significant backing from Iran.

“We understand that after the exchange of fire earlier today, Israel and Hezbollah are now in a ceasefire,” the official asserted.

However, Al Mayadeen‘s correspondent in southern Lebanon reported that an Israeli airstrike targeted Nabatieh as the purported ceasefire went into effect.

In this context, Channel 13 cited a high-ranking Israeli official as saying, “We are currently in a state of ceasefire, and if Hezbollah doesn’t attack us, then in our viewpoint, this is not the time for war.”

However, he maintained that “Israeli forces remain in southern Lebanon,” claiming, “We have the freedom of operation against any direct threats that target our forces and territory.”

The start of a 60-day period of technical negotiations between Iran and the US in Geneva was postponed on 19 June, following a brutal Israeli escalation against south and east Lebanon.

The Swiss Foreign Ministry confirmed in a statement that the talks have been pushed, with no new date provided.

US Vice President JD Vance canceled his flight to Switzerland. Tehran’s delegation also did not depart for the talks.

According to a diplomatic source cited by CNN, Tehran is demanding guarantees that Israeli attacks on Lebanon end before going ahead with talks.

“The Iranians have asked for guarantees that hostilities in Lebanon will end, as outlined in the signed agreement. Mediators are currently working to resolve the issue,” the source said, adding that talks have been “temporarily postponed following the Israeli strikes in Lebanon.”
