The Turkish poet Livaneli for Mikis Theodorakis: “The pain is so deep!”

Sep.2, 2021

Omer Zulfou Livaneli, the musician, writer and poet, close friend and collaborator of Mikis Theodorakis, said goodbye to him through his Twitter account as soon as his death was announced.

“What happened since 1983 when at a concert in Athens he invaded my dressing room with his imposing body? The first time he came to Istanbul for the Golden Record ceremony for the album “Güneş Topla Benim .çin” (Pick up the sun for me), he was at the Urcan restaurant in Sariger that night. While drinking raki, we decided to found the Hellenic-Turkish Friendship Association… hundreds of concerts, the unforgettable night we had in Ephesus with Hatzidakis, Theodorakis and thirty thousand spectators, travels, vacations, illnesses αλ All these pass through my mind το

In a series of posts on Twitter, Omer Zulfou Livaneli writes about the path of Mikis Theodorakis from the resistance to the German occupation, the civil war, the dictatorship.

“Or the one who fought against the British, together with his brothers in the Civil War, then against the junta of colonels in his 40s and then the one who did not hesitate to stand up wherever he thought there was oppression or human rights violations, with in short, against all forms of oppression and wars throughout his life “;

“. I lost one of my best friends in life and art. Mikis Theodorakis who represents the purity of the human spirit, gone through pain, wars, exile, love and betrayal. The pain is so deep! ”
