South South Dialogue on Sustainability (SSDS)

Perspectives on People’s Economies

Following our webinar series Delinking for Self-Determination and Solidarity, we invite you to join a discussion centered on perspectives of people’s economies. Over recent decades, labor unions, cooperative movements, peasant organizations, community-based initiatives, people’s communes and feminist collectives have waged struggles around land access, the organization of production, collective planning, assembly-based power, social ownership of the means of production, modalities of self-management, alternative redistribution, and the social appropriation of value, among other dynamics. These practices have taken root in local territories while simultaneously contesting state policies.

Can we understand these efforts as constituent elements of potential delinking agendas for sovereign projects? Is it possible to construct national and transnational delinking strategies grounded in such experiences? Might people’s economies offer critical pathways for alternative development and economic models emerging from the Global South?
