Don’t let Cuba die!

Appeal to the leaders of China, Russia, the BRICS and to the world public opinion

The government of the United States continues its inhumane, criminal, and gangster-like policy of blockade against Cuba, preventing the country from importing the oil it desperately needs. The result is shortages in the most basic infrastructure, people dying because of power outages in hospitals, enormous difficulties in the sectors of healthcare and education, and the gradual disintegration of the Cuban economy.

At the same time, the U.S. government is threatening military intervention on the island and fabricating utterly absurd, ridiculous claims that Cuba is supposedly arming itself in order  to attack the United States!

The economic war aimed at crushing Cuba seeks to bring about regime change in Havana and return Cuba to the era when it served as America’s brothel and casino.

Any collapse of Cuba would constitute a terrible defeat for all democratic humanity. It would reward the destruction of international law by the United States and intimidate any government seeking to exercise its sovereignty in the world — including even governments of supposed U.S. allies such as Canada and Denmark.

But that is not all. Washington openly states that it wants Russian and Chinese early-warning stations removed from the island. Their dismantling, combined with the new “Star Wars” missile defense program, facilitates plans for a nuclear first strike and destroys any strategic stability between the United States, Russia, and China.

For all these reasons, we appeal to the BRICS countries, especially the leaderships of China and Russia, as well as to the leaders of all other states, calling on them to undertake joint practical initiatives to break the oil embargo against Cuba.

We are confident that such initiatives would today meet with the approval and support of world public opinion, including the public opinion in the United States and Europe. The states which will undertake such a humanitarian initiative have only to gain in prestige and popularity.

We understand why the governments to which we are appealing do not wish to provoke yet another dangerous crisis in their relations with the United States. But if Washington encounters practical opposition from a number of powerful states acting together, it will not be able to escalate toward a crisis — especially given its already open front in Western Asia.

But even if that does not happen, a crisis is preferable to encouraging the unprecedented global aggression currently being displayed by the United States. The longer humanity delays in stopping this phenomenon—and the only way to stop it is to resolutely resist gangster imperialism—the more dangerous crises it will face in the future.
